The Johnson Family. We consist of Dad - Keith, Mum - Sylvia, Marc and Kieran. We have a number of interests and are always pleased to be involved with people and projects that coincide with them. One of our main interests for the last few years is 4x4 driving. The interest started as a combination of Keith's lifelong interest in vehicles and youngest son, Kieran's new found interest in Land Rovers. This resulted in our entry in 2007 of the Landy Rally, a 2300 mile, 8 country, challenge for Land Rover owners.
After enjoying the incredible experience of all the preparations for the 2007 event and meeting so many great people, we entered again in 2008 with two vehicles. Kieran and Marc entered as Team Monstar while Keith and Sylvia bought a 1993 Discovery and prepared it for the 2008 expedition and other events. This time both vehicles completed the event but encountered (and overcame) many problems along the way. These included a failed clutch for Team Monstar and breakages to the transmission, brake pipe and rear suspension for Team RoadRunners. Despite these problems the event was a great success -RoadRunners coming 5th overall. For 2009 a team reshuffle has taken place with Kieran and his Land Rover 90 joining the event management team and being the event "lead vehicle" while Marc has joined Keith and Sylvia in the RoadRunners team. Preparations are well under way including a wing rebuild after an off-road adventure changed its shape !!
This year we are attempting to cover as many miles as possible with "green" fuel. This consists of a combinbation of used, filtered cooking oil from a local Indian resaurant, professionally prepared bio-diesel and unused cooking oil purchased along the route. We so far have about 250 litres ready to use but we may have to discuss our intentions with the ferry operators and of course weight in the early stages will be an issue but it should give us a green range of nearly 1400 miles !!
