November 2007

This is Lenny the Land Rover. Lenny joins the Johnson fleet as a standard diesel Discovery. Currently it is road legal (just) needing working headlights and indicators. Then work will then start on rally preparations ....

We also make our entry to the 2008 Rally as team "Sylki RoadRunners"

December 2007

The lights all work now so down to the serious stuff. Off with the front valance and on with the first bit of under-body protection - a Rebel steering guard. This not only protects the steering gear but also provides high lift jacking points and recovery tow points.

We will be going through our preparations with Team Monstar and competing with them. We have each selected a new charity to support, we wanted to continue last years theme of helping young people disadvantaged by ill health and are raining money for the Ellen MacArthur Trust, while Team Monstar are working with the Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance.

Christmas 2007 Christmas 2007

This is the third corner fitted with a 2" suspension lift - one more to go then big rocks will be no problem to climb.

Underwater preparation Underwater preparation

If a vehicle gets into deep water the biggest danger is that water will get into the engine. If this happens the pistons will attempt to compress it as it would the normal fuel/air mixture. Since water doesn't compress the same something has to give ... The end result is that the engine stops in an expensive way. A snorkel means that we can get into water almost as deep as the car is high and still keep the engine running. In practice the drivers air intake would probably be flooded before this !!

Side Impact Protection System Side Impact Protection System

Not just protecting the side of Lenny these bars are also attached to the strengthened sills. This gives the ability to "bounce" off rocks / trees etc without damage to the bodywork or floor. Additionally they contain strong jacking points that can be used in more serious situations. We should be ready for the MOT now.

March 2008

New Tyres

On a recent trip with the Lincolnshire Mud Club it became clear that better tyres were needed. Since this picture was taken a new set of mud terrain tyres have been fitted. Hopefully tracks like these will be easier to navigate. On this occasion a tow was need to get us through !

More progress !! During the last week in March we pass the MOT with no problem (Apart from a liitle difficulty with the flasher unit). Also the charity graphics arrive and are now firmly in place. Now we need to start attracting corporate sponsorship to add to the graphics.
